The TS ISO 39001 Road Traffic Safety Management System standard sets out the requirements for a road traffic safety management system aimed at reducing, mitigating or completely eliminating deaths and serious injuries resulting from road traffic collisions that public and private organisations interacting with the road traffic system may influence. 

This standard focuses on the management of societal safety risks relating to accidents that may cause material and personal harm; ensuring that organisations establish, implement and improve a road traffic safety management system; define their policies and strategies; fulfil their commitments; raise awareness by increasing social sensitivity; develop a traffic culture; provide support for audit processes; improve system performance; and ensure compliance with international requirements; and is aimed at public and private organisations associated with the road traffic system.

In order for the state to manage as effectively as possible the socio-economic, physical and mental health impacts arising from a failure to ensure road traffic safety, it is essential to have the participation of all organisations and civil society organisations at various levels, including individual road users, and the importance of implementing this standard is increasing.
